What is peace? What peace question would you like to ask other people? Now imagine hearing millions of people of various ages from different countries, economic classes and political climates respond to these questions.

The Open Book Peace Project (OBPP) is a grassroots effort to create an ongoing international dialogue about peace among diverse individuals and communities. The project gives individuals the chance to have their voices heard and their minds known. The project presents millions of people with the opportunity to participate as co-authors in a collective work -- an experience that can, in itself, promote the spread of peace in the world.

The OBPP uses art as a forum to discuss and explore peace and related social issues. Through peace discussions and hands-on activities including writing and drawing pages, bookbinding and hand papermaking, the project invites people to examine the meaning of peace in their lives and the world around them and to share their ideas through the OBPP book.

Currently, the OBPP book contains more than 700 pages contributed by individuals from Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and points beyond. It is growing at a rate of 2 pages per day. The unprecedented length of the book is intended to defy expectations and make people rethink their notions of what is possible -- in both books and peace. By stretching people's notions of how long a book can be, the project aims to inspire people to see beyond the limits of accepted wisdom and redefine the possibilities for peace in their own lives and the world.
