Open Book Peace Project
PEACEMAKER AWARDS
Do you know a peacemaker in your community?
Nominate them for recognition at the Open Book
Peace Project exhibit at the Jane Addams Center for Arts and Culture.
Very often, people think of peace as something created by political or religious leaders or social activists. They don’t realize that peacemakers are at work every day in their own neighborhoods and communities. A peacemaker is anyone who makes the world around them a better place. A teacher or cafeteria worker at your local school, a member of your own family, someone from your church or congregation, a coach or a local shop owner, a bus driver or crossing guard – any of these people can be a peacemaker. Peacemakers make the world around them better by spreading good cheer and optimistic thinking among their family members, neighbors, co-workers and other people around them. Other peacemakers make the world around them a better place by giving a helping hand to poor or homeless people or anyone else in need in their communities. Still other peacemakers make the world a better place by helping the people around them get along with one another and resolving their conflicts in peaceful, non-violent ways.
The OBPP Peacemaker Awards are a way for people to say “thank you” to the peacemakers in their lives, and a reminder that all of us have the power to create peace in our own families and communities.
How do I begin?
Start by asking yourself: “How
does this person promote peace with their life, with their words, with their
actions at home, in their community, in the world at large?
Next, fill out a Peacemaker Nomination Form. In the space provided, create a writing or drawing that explains how your nominee helps create peace. Send your nomination sheet and contact information to openbookpeaceproject@hotmail.com by March 15, 2006.
When will the
peacemaker be honored?
The
nominated peacemakers will be honored at a reception on March 24, 6-9 pm, at
the Open Book Peace Project exhibit
at the Jane Addams Center for Arts and Culture. All the drawings and writings from the Peacemaker
Nomination Forms will be framed for the event, and every participant who
nominated a peacemaker will have the opportunity to present their drawing or
writing to their nominee.
